Join Big Sunday’s Mother’s Day Cruise

We invite lots of people of all ages, from all walks of life, for a 2-hour harbor cruise. Guests include individuals, families, corporate groups, faith groups. Plus nice folks from group homes, hospitals, shelters – some of whom have never been on a boat before! All participants are asked just one thing: to meet at least one new person. Then, we all just enjoy each other’s company. Oh, we also enjoy coffee, juice, and awesome snacks (individually wrapped!), while watching the sea lions take in some sun. That’s it. Due to COVID-19, the Friendship Shelter had to stop all in-person events and gatherings. However, that didn't stop the many volunteers and passionate supporters from helping them get the donations they needed! Build Community with Sycamores Child and Family Services

Sycamores provides behavioral services and care and support for families, children, and young adults. They have an amazing set of programs but could always use a little help from the community. Fill out their volunteer form online to let them know what kind of volunteering you would like to do, and they will assign you accordingly. You can plant a garden, throw a party, fix up a cottage or participate in another rewarding project that will make a difference for their clients. You can mentor, tutor, or befriend a client as well as help out at their many events.

Imagine LA works to prevent first time and repeat homelessness by empowering people and families to maintain their housing. Consider volunteering with them and help support your community! There are many ways to volunteer, including becoming a family mentor and friend, where you partner with a family who either expierenced homelessness or was severely at risk and are now in stable housing and getting back on their feet. Get Social with People with Differing Needs at the JFSLA

Get chatty on Zoom with Jewish Family Service LA's members of Chaverim. Chaverim is JFSLA's social program for adults with developmental disabilities, and you might be the perfect candidate to lead zoom activities for this program. You will need to be available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with the occational Sunday. Open Your Home to a Homeless College Student with Jovenes Inc.

Jovenes Inc. works with youth ages 18-25 end their cycle of homelessness. They work with youth focusing on not only their needs for housing, but also healthcare, education, employment and trauma recovery. You can contribute to their amazing work by hosting a college student! Host Homes are when individuals or families volunteer to open their home for up to 6 months to college students (ages 18-24) experiencing housing insecurities. Hosts create safe spaces where youth have a sense of belonging in our community and society. Help Out at Laura’s House

Laura's House provides shelter and resources for women and children affected by domestic violence. Consider volunteering to help them with outreatch, event preparation, running their thrift store, or anything else that catches your eye! Volunteers age 16+ can volunteer independently in a Non-Direct Service Role and a Direct Service Role. All volunteers age 18+ in both Non-Direct and Direct-Client Services Roles will be required to complete a background check. You can even serve as an advocate after taking some training classes! They not only build affordable housing buildings, but they provide services so that all tenants feel supported, seen, and heard. Volunteer with their Health and Wellbeing team today! You will sustain the physical and mental health of seniors so as to improve their quality of life and further their ability to live independently. Some responsibilitites include: building relationships and trust with residents and property management, reviewing all necessary material prior to services, purchasing needed materials and submit expense reports for reimbursement / notify RSC of supplies needed, setting-up and cleaning-up of program space, facilitating program activities, setting a good example by being punctual, enthusiastic and helpful, performing community outreach and marketing for Linc Housing resident services programs and, reporting on program outcomes to manager. Every week, PATH moves dozens of previously homeless families off the streets and into homes.
