Volunteers are absolutely essential to SPY’s mission. They’re in need of volunteers to participate in shifts at their Access Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There are two shifts, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm or from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Responsibilities and opportunities include things like: Run check-in or the desk. Greet youth as they arrive or help them make sure youth access the showers they need. Monitor the Clothing Closet. Each day, youth members can select one outfit from the clothing closet. Get involved with Healing Arts or the Digital Arts Lab. Volunteers with a passion for arts, yoga, graphic design or more may find this volunteering opportunity especially rewarding. Outreach. Engage with street-based youth out in the community alongside one of their Outreach and Engagement Case Managers, providing access to survival resources and SPY's onsite programs. Housing Sites. We meet every Thursday morning, from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. And we host hands-on projects to help local nonprofits. At TM@10 we’ve assembled birthday gifts for folks in shelters; written letters to soldiers stationed overseas; packed backpacks for ex-gang members starting college; made quilts for preemies; and about 1000 other things. Even better – and in classic Big Sunday fashion – it’s a great way for people to meet new people, work together, and enjoy some laughs while helping someone else. All projects will be in our headquarters: 6111 Melrose Ave. There’s street parking in front of our office or on June Street. Anyone 5 years of age or older must be fully vaccinated to participate. Please bring your vaccination card or digital proof. For now, we’ll be outside in the parking lot (entrance through Seward St), masked and distanced. Help A Sense of Home Print and Frame Pictures
ASOH will send electronic photos that you will then print and place in frames. Framed photos can be delivered or shipped to the ASOH warehouse. This all happens within a two-week period. They highly encourage participants to plan ahead and hold a “frame drive” within your community. Join forces with local community members to gather beautiful frames to be filled with wonderful memories. Host a Virtual Dinner for the Friendship Shelter
Due to COVID-19, the Friendship Shelter had to stop all in-person events and gatherings. However, that didn't stop the many volunteers and passionate supporters from helping them get the donations they needed!
