Hang Out At Service Sundays with Food on Foot

Food on Foot is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting our unhoused and low-income neighbors in Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and a fresh start through life-skills training, full-time employment, and permanent housing. They work out of their Hollywood HQ to give out food, build community with those in their jobs and housing programs, and raise spirits of those in tough situations. Being a volunteer at one of their service sundays is not only an incredible help, but its also fanstastically fun! Kids 6 and up are welcome to come, and children 12 and under must have a chaperone. Volunteer with the Foothill Family Shelter

The Foothill Family Shelter is ready and eager to meet new volunteers! They house unhoused families with children for up to 4 months, with the possibility for extension and 1 year transitional housing depending on the case. They always need help though, and volunteers can help with: sorting donations, stocking shelves in the food pantry, serving walk-in clients and providing resources to walk-in clients. Meal prep for the West Hollywood Food Coalition's community dinner! They host it every night, so any day you wanna spend a little time in the kitchen, feel free to volunteer with them! With COVID restrictions, they are only able to have a few people in the kitchen at a time. They require everyone to wear a mask, gloves, and disposable aprons, as well as some form of head covering which is required by the Dept. of Health for any kitchen work. Open Your Home to a Homeless College Student with Jovenes Inc.

Jovenes Inc. works with youth ages 18-25 end their cycle of homelessness. They work with youth focusing on not only their needs for housing, but also healthcare, education, employment and trauma recovery. You can contribute to their amazing work by hosting a college student! Host Homes are when individuals or families volunteer to open their home for up to 6 months to college students (ages 18-24) experiencing housing insecurities. Hosts create safe spaces where youth have a sense of belonging in our community and society. If you are 25+ years old and live in LA County, YOU can help fight youth homelessness by hosting college students in your home! Laura's House provides shelter and resources for women and children affected by domestic violence. Consider volunteering to help them with outreatch, event preparation, running their thrift store, or anything else that catches your eye! Volunteers age 16+ can volunteer independently in a Non-Direct Service Role and a Direct Service Role. All volunteers age 18+ in both Non-Direct and Direct-Client Services Roles will be required to complete a background check. You can even serve as an advocate after taking some training classes! LINC housing approaches affordable housing in a nuanced and complete way. They not only build affordable housing buildings, but they provide services so that all tenants feel supported, seen, and heard. Volunteer with their Health and Wellbeing team today! You will sustain the physical and mental health of seniors so as to improve their quality of life and further their ability to live independently. Some responsibilitites include: building relationships and trust with residents and property management, reviewing all necessary material prior to services, purchasing needed materials and submit expense reports for reimbursement / notify RSC of supplies needed, setting-up and cleaning-up of program space, facilitating program activities, setting a good example by being punctual, enthusiastic and helpful, performing community outreach and marketing for Linc Housing resident services programs and, reporting on program outcomes to manager.
