Hang Out At Service Sundays with Food on Foot
Food on Foot is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting our unhoused and low-income neighbors in Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and a fresh start through life-skills training, full-time employment, and permanent housing. They work out of their Hollywood HQ to give out food, build community with those in their jobs and housing programs, and raise spirits of those in tough situations. Volunteer with the Foothill Family Shelter
The Foothill Family Shelter is ready and eager to meet new volunteers! They house unhoused families with children for up to 4 months, with the possibility for extension and 1 year transitional housing depending on the case. They always need help though, and volunteers can help with: sorting donations, stocking shelves in the food pantry, serving walk-in clients and providing resources to walk-in clients. Meal Prep for Community Dinner with the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition
Meal prep for the West Hollywood Food Coalition's community dinner! They host it every night, so any day you wanna spend a little time in the kitchen, feel free to volunteer with them! With COVID restrictions, they are only able to have a few people in the kitchen at a time. They require everyone to wear a mask, gloves, and disposable aprons, as well as some form of head covering which is required by the Dept. of Health for any kitchen work. Serving at a community dinner is a wonderful expierence with the Hollywood Food Coalition. The volunteers at a community dinner are a connection to the community. Sycamores provides behavioral services and care and support for families, children, and young adults. They have an amazing set of programs but could always use a little help from the community. Imagine LA works to prevent first time and repeat homelessness by empowering people and families to maintain their housing. Consider volunteering with them and help support your community! There are many ways to volunteer, including becoming a family mentor and friend, where you partner with a family who either expierenced homelessness or was severely at risk and are now in stable housing and getting back on their feet. Open Your Home to a Homeless College Student with Jovenes Inc.
Jovenes Inc. works with youth ages 18-25 end their cycle of homelessness. They work with youth focusing on not only their needs for housing, but also healthcare, education, employment and trauma recovery. Host Homes are when individuals or families volunteer to open their home for up to 6 months to college students (ages 18-24) experiencing housing insecurities. Laura's House provides shelter and resources for women and children affected by domestic violence. Consider volunteering to help them with outreatch, event preparation, running their thrift store, or anything else that catches your eye! Volunteers age 16+ can volunteer independently in a Non-Direct Service Role and a Direct Service Role. All volunteers age 18+ in both Non-Direct and Direct-Client Services Roles will be required to complete a background check. You can even serve as an advocate after taking some training classes!
