Help at The Giving Farm with Community Action Partnership of Orange County Food Bank

Every person that volunteers with The Giving Farm will be an empowering force to helping change the community. Volunteers will be working on an 8-acre farm supporting the day-to-day operations such as planting, weeding, and harvesting to help in providing approximately 200,000 pounds of produce annually to our community members most in need. Work will consist of repetitive manual labor such as kneeling down to plant transplants and bending over to remove unwanted plant debris. Materials will be provided. Volunteers must be free of any common flu symptoms, i.e. fever or cough. Dress Code: You will be working on a farm, wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Closed toe-shoes (work boots or hiking boots preferred). Thick long pants and long-sleeved shirts preferred. Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen). Sort and Distribute Food at Salvation Army Glendale’s Food Pantry

The Salvation Army Glendale's Food Pantry program serves hundreds of invidiuals and families every month. They have recently transitioned into a 'marketplace' system, which gives their clients the independence to choose their own food options. In order to serve the community, Salvation Army Glendale need volunteers to help maintain the pantry by spending a couple of hours each week performing one (or more) of the following tasks: 1. Sort incoming food donations by type. 2. Place sorted foods in the designated area. 3. Help restock the marketplace floor as needed. 4. Assist/interact with clients. They have opportunities available Monday through Friday. Volunteers under 18 years old need to be supervised by an adult. Additionally, this opportunity involves the lifting of light weight items such as canned food, bread, etc. This is a great opportunity to bless the community! Join Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County as they plant, harvest, weed and maintain the fields of the Harvest Solutions Farm located just down the road from their food bank in Irvine, CA! Currently, the volunteer opportunity is only available to people who are fully vaccinated or provide proof of a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours prior to volunteer shifts and 13 years old and above. Assemble Boxes of Food for Low-Income Seniors

Every person that volunteers with the OC Food Bank will be an empowering force to helping change the community. Volunteers will be working on assembly lines packing a variety of food items into boxes that will be serving approximately 25,500 low-income seniors monthly. These boxes are eventually distributed to over 70 sites all throughout Orange County and surrounding areas. This is a high energy, fast-paced event well loved by volunteers. Volunteers are absolutely essential to SPY’s mission. They’re in need of volunteers to participate in shifts at their Access Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There are two shifts, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm or from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Responsibilities and opportunities include things like: Run check-in or the desk. Greet youth as they arrive or help them make sure youth access the showers they need. Monitor the Clothing Closet. Each day, youth members can select one outfit from the clothing closet. Get involved with Healing Arts or the Digital Arts Lab. Volunteers with a passion for arts, yoga, graphic design or more may find this volunteering opportunity especially rewarding. Outreach. Engage with street-based youth out in the community alongside one of their Outreach and Engagement Case Managers, providing access to survival resources and SPY's onsite programs. Housing Sites. Support the clothing closet, donation transport, and more across each of their housing sites. And more! Be a Guest Chef at Ascencia

Every morning and evening, volunteers prepare and serve hot meals for homeless families and adults in Ascencia's Emergency Housing program. These “Guest Chefs” give their time and energy, generously donating food and a great deal of compassion with each plate. Volunteers in the Guest Chef Program commit to preparing meals for approximately 45 shelter residents on a daily basis. Volunteers typically create a Guest Chef team comprised of fellow members of a congregation, service organization, co-workers, family members, friends, etc. f you are interested in signing up, please be sure to review our safety protocols for on-site volunteering and visit our Sign Up Genius. Make Lunches for Ascencia Clients

Ascencia's Volunteer from Home Program was created in response to COVID-19, as a way to keep their volunteers engaged and connected to Ascencia. One way is to make brown bag lunches for clients in the shelter and individuals on the streets. Their Outreach Team goes out every day and will take brown bag lunches to those in need. Lunches can include peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit, chips, water, etc.

Ascencia's Volunteer from Home Program was created in response to COVID-19, as a way to keep their volunteers engaged and connected to Ascencia. One way is to support the Development Team by providing administrative and data entry support. Requires long-term commitment of at least six months. Food Pantry Volunteer APLA Health

The Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) provides groceries to over 1,700 clients who live on a limited income. Clients are able to access the food bank weekly, and take home five bags of groceries per visit. They receive a wide variety of predetermined items that include fresh dairy, frozen meats, fresh produce, and an assortment of canned and dry goods that cover 100% of weekly meals as well as hygiene items and cleaning supplies. NOLP is one of the largest programs at APLA Health, and have a number of opportunities for volunteers, such as distributing groceries to clients, pre-bagging groceries, filing, and stocking shelves. REQUIREMENTS: The desire to help improve the quality of life of low-income people with HIV. Enjoy working in a warehouse environment. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism. Outgoing personality, excellent communication skills. Bilingual Spanish helpful, as well as some knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Proof of negative tuberculosis test signed by a licensed California physician and dated within the last 12 months. Proof of COVID full vaccination. A person is fully vaccinated when they have received their booster dose or they received their initial vaccine series but are not yet eligible for their booster. Wear an approved face covering, as recommended by Los Angeles County Department of Public health.
